At the end of his 1987 Atlanta criminal trial Tom was cleared of the Conspiracy to Murder charge even though there were witnesses who had testified that he was involved.

Testimony Monday in the federal racketeering trial of Carl Coppola linked him to two murder conspiracies, in both of which Coppola intended to use homemade, remote-controlled bombs, according to a key prosecution witness. In his sixth and final day on direct examination, Alexander Biscuiti, an unindicted co-conspirator, said Coppola and his business associate Thomas Papanier repeatedly had asked Biscuiti to kill Danny Forgione in a dispute over money.

Forgione, president of a Broward County, Fla., labor union, had arranged organized crime protection for Coppola after he was kidnapped in November 1982, according to Biscuiti. Coppola hatched the plot to kill Forgione after Forgione threatened to take over some of Coppola's Jilly's restaurants in lieu of payment for the protection debt, said Biscuiti, a cooperating witness.

Testimony this morning in the federal trial of accused racketeer Carl Coppola linked him to two murders, one of which was allegedly planned in the Dunwoody house of co-defendant Tommy Papanier. Joseph Lee testified he, Coppola, Papanier and associate Alexander Biscuiti met in January 1984 to plot the murder of Danny Forgione. Forgione was fatally shot six times at close range in Florida in March 1984.

The murder was necessary, Lee said, because Forgione knew Coppola had had another man, Joseph Cam, killed. He said Forgione was "blackmailing" and "shaking down" Coppola with his knowledge.

Lee said that at the meeting in Papanier's house, "there was general conversation of different methods by which Forgione could be killed. It was discussed getting him alone so he could be killed. There was discussion of blowing him up, shooting him with a high-powered rifle."

Coppola told Biscuiti that it was his responsibility to carry out the murder plot, and that he "would only pay expenses" for the scheme, Lee said.

Coppola also expressed displeasure that Biscuiti had been unable to murder Forgione up to that point, Lee said. "He Coppola just said it seemed like this was taking too long."

Lee also testified that Coppola told him he had had Cam killed for kidnapping him.

Cam was shot to death in May 1983. He and two other men had kidnapped Coppola in November 1982.

Lee, an unindicted co-conspirator in the case, said he was hired as Coppola's bodyguard in January 1984. He is serving an unrelated federal drug sentence and is cooperating with the prosecution in exhange for immunity.

Tom Papania was never charged with involvement in the murder of Joseph Cam (one of the three men who had his boss and partner Carl Coppola kidnapped).  Yet, in past versions of his "Christian testimony" Tom has testified that he ordered two top men in the mafia to make an example of the three men who were responsible for the kidnapping.

Tom's recorded statement:

"And I want an example set of those three men that kidnapped him. And if an example is not set, I'm coming back here and setting an example with the two of you."

Click Here for an audio clip of this foolish boastful statement extracted from the Tom Papania cassette tape I bought from the Focus on the Family bookstore (Colorado Springs) in early 1997.

Tom Papania in his own "Christian testimony" implicates himself with Conspiracy to Murder in the case of Joseph Cam!  Directly contradicting his "Christian testimony" Tom at one time denied (during his criminal trial) that he had anything to do with the murder of Cam.  So which testimony of Tom is true?  Did Tom lie in court or is he lying today?

Coppola co-defendant bragged about mob ties, court told

Coppola's desire to maintain control of his enterprise and its profits led to his murder conspiracies against two associates, according to Biscuiti, who began testifying on Thursday. Papanier also participated in both murder conspiracies, said Biscuiti.

Biscuiti said tension between Coppola and Joseph Cam, Coppola's main business partner, heightened after Cam kidnapped Coppola in 1982 in a dispute over money. When Coppola reneged on a promise to pay Cam $500,000, Cam repeatedly pressured Coppola for the money and threatened to kidnap Coppola's ex-wife and stepdaughter, Biscuiti testified.

During an April 1983 meeting, Biscuiti testified, Coppola and Papanier plotted to kill Cam, and Papanier asked Biscuiti to perform the murder. He said, "It would be easy; I could take him for a ride and kill him," testified Biscuiti, who said he declined.

On May 9, 1983, another Coppola associate, Danny Forgione, called Biscuiti to say Cam had been killed. Cam's body was found the next day in Oakland Park, Fla., with a bullet in the head.

Asked Coppola's reaction to the slaying, Biscuiti said, "He was happy. He just smiled. He said, `It'll teach anybody a lesson.'"

Neither Coppola nor Papanier is charged with Cam's murder. They both are accused of conspiring to kill Forgione, however.
